Electronic Cigarette Terminology

With every new invention comes a whole new vocabulary you must learn in order to fully understand it. Electronic cigarettes are no different, however, with electronic cigarettes, the vocabulary you need to learn is not that big.

This article will list the more well-known words and terms you will have come across or will come across while using electronic cigarettes.

Analog

This is the term used to refer to the stinky, bad for you tobacco cigarette you ‘use’ to smoke. We call these analogs because we call our new cigarette an electronic cigarette.

Atomiser

The atomiser is the thing that is responsible for vaporizing your e-liquid. The atomiser is basically a piece of high-temperature wire wound around a piece of silica wick a number of times to create what is now known as a heating coil. Atomisers can also have many other various materials used as the wick, but the more common is silica.

Clearomiser

The clearomiser is a tube with an atomiser built inside it. The clearomiser is the more common delivery system used today and can hold as much as 6ml of e-liquid or more.

Battery

The battery is the second most important component to your electronic cigarette, without the battery you would not be able to power up your atomiser. Batteries come in many different styles and sizes. The Battery is designed to connect to the atomiser and provides power allowing the vaporization of eJuice.

e-Cigarette battery examples would be eGo C Twist, eGo C Upgrade, the eGo-T, LavaTube. e-Cigarette Mod batteries are generally removable batteries rather than being fixed into the e-cigarette device. They are generally either Li-ion, LiMn or LiPo battery chemistries.

Cartomizer

A Cartomizer is a combination of an Atomiser within a tank type system. These tubes generally holds around 1-2ml of e-liquid and requires a drip tip on top.

Dripping

This is a technique used by more advanced users of electronic cigarettes. This done using a 306 atomiser, or a rebuildable atomiser such as the Phoenix, or Genesis. The idea is to drip a few drops directly onto the atomiser, this is said to produce a better tasting flavor. Today most people drip to test a newly mixed flavor before creating a larger batch.

Drip Tips

There are many different types, shapes, and styles of drip tips out there in the world. They are essentially a mouthpiece that connects to your cartomizer or atomizer. Its what you put your lips on when using your e-cigarette.

Dual Coil

Generally, refers to SmokTech Dual Coil Cartomizers which in general terms is a Cartomizer with Dual Coils. Ordinarily, a cartomizer only has a single coil to assist in heating, atomizing, vaporizing the e-Liquid. But the Dual Coil system heats a larger surface area which leads to an arguably better vaping experience.

eGo-C Twist

Is a Variable Voltage e-Cigarette battery from Joye Tech. It allows the user to have control over the voltage output. The eGo-C Twist is Variable Voltage within the range 3.2-4.8v. For a user requiring a smaller, less imposing e-Cigarette battery, the eGo C Twist by Joye Tech is a great choice.

E-Liquid

Otherwise known as eJuice, e-Juice, e Juice, eLiquid or e-Liquid. Some Chinese websites even advertise it as “Smoke Oil” (stay away…seriously). e-Liquid contains a few different components. Commonly, food grade flavorings blended with but not always, Nicotine in a base of Propylene Glycol or Vegetable Glycerin or a combination of both. e-Liquid is where you get the flavor from, it is what creates the vapor and what gives you the flavor. There are many, from many different suppliers. Some good, some terrible. Taste is subjective and when people talk about taste, they are talking about e-Liquid.
